Eliminating Soda

So, recently my husband Phil and I decided that we were going to eliminate soda from our house. We just drank too much of it! So although I feel sometimes that we are going nuts for that caffeine and gross artificial flavor craving, we are being very good. I wanted to share our recipe for homemade soda to help those of you who are in the same boat as us. Enjoy!

Sprite:
1 can on seltzer or soda water (not tonic or club soda)
juice of 1/2 lemon or lime
1 tbsp of agave nectar or honey (or a splenda or other low cal sweetener)

In a 16 oz cup add sweetener and lemon or lime juice. Add ice and seltzer and stir until well combined.

Fruity Soda:
2 oz fruit juice (of your choice, good with orange, 100% juice fruit punch, cranberry)
1 can of seltzer or soda water (not tonic or club soda)

Tip* Next time you go to order that fruity sweet drink at the Bar, ask the Bartender to cut the juice with some seltzer or soda water. It reduces the amount of calories per drink and I promise you wont even taste the difference. Example: Phil likes Patron (tequila) and Pineapple - ask the bartender to do Patron and Seltzer with a splash of pineapple.

Tip* True Lemon/True Lime - crystallized lemon and lime products that is 100% natural and made by real lime and lemon is a great substitute for the fresh stuff. You can buy this at the supermarket (and I actually found it at the Christmas Tree shop) I use it for drinks, soups, on fish or chicken, its great!
